Jimmy Durante has been called in the past, “The Banana Nose” there was even a skit of him in the cartoon Popeye in one episode. He was known for his nose.

As great as the stuff throughout the movie is, the best jokes are when Jimmy literally kicks the bucket at the beginning (Best. Cameo. Ever.) and when Ethel Merman slips on the banana peel at the end. Just goes to show you can’t neglect the classics.
