Tim Burton has publically said in an interview that the image of Edward Scissorhands was very much inspired by Robert Smith. The photo should be reversed as to show the obvious inspiration, not the time paradox and misinformation.

Robert Smith isn’t “an old has-been trying to look cool”; he’s nearly always worn his make-up and hair that way, why should he change it just because he’s got a bit older? And he will always be way better looking than Johnny Depp thankyou very much.
I like Johnny Depp and Robert Smith and The Cure. Robert Smith has had that same look for a looong time, it is his stage persona. The Cure has been a successful and great band for a long time. Whether you like them or not, they have been very successful and have been so for many years, not an easy task for a rock band. Johnny Depp is an actor, and that picture is from a role he played, and actually played well. He is quite good at playing quirky roles. I don’t think either Robert Smith or Johnny Depp needs to be considered good or bad at the expense of the other. I personally like both men, respect and enjoy their work, and think both are attractive and sexy. So there, neener neener.
