Stanley Kubrick directed ‘2001:A Space Odyssey’, ‘A Clockwork Orange’ and ‘The Shining’. Salman Rushdie is best known for writing “The Satanic Verses’, getting sentenced to death by the Ayatollah Khomeini for doing so, and hiding.

i never actually knew what stanley kubrick looked like. kind of creepy. of course, his movies are as well. nevertheless, clockwork orange will never be the same.

We need more Rushdies and fewer Kubricks, IMO. Space Odyssey was SOOO boring, Clockwork Orange was … well perverted and example of desensitizing violence that the movie decries, and FMJ’s was more violent and seemed to be even more perverted.

Really, Eyes Wide Shut is almost a testament to Kubrick’s ability. Between Tom Cruise being awful, Nicole Kidman being awful, and their relationship/chemistry having its own entity of awful, he was crippled from the beginning. But he ended up making the movie pretty tense, only for the audience to find out at the end that nothing freaking happened. Not my favorite of his, by any means, but a talented job directing, as always.

Trying to get a decent performance that isn’t the same as his acting in Top Gun out of Tom “gay midget” Cruise, and Nicole “Botox Queen” Kidman would have sent any director’s blood pressure through the roof.
