I think Shostakovich was more known for his musical compositions rather than as an intellectual. Just wanted to point that out. Either way there’s pretty good similarity there.

Except Schotakovitch was not a twit and he fought real monsters, like Joseph Stalin and Nikita Kruschov, and all their vile apparatchiks, and he regularly outwitted them. He was a real hero who put himself in harms way to save the lives of thousands of his countrymen and for 50 years his music was the moral conscience of the Soviet Union offering hope, bitter humor and spiritual sustenance to an utterly demoralized people. (Oh, yeah, he also wrote a lot of great movie music.)
