Oldster here, as I recall, they said it was drawn with Jay Leno in mind.
Did you know that Fred MacMurray was the model in mind for some famous old comic book character. Thought was the same, large square jaw, tall, ‘thinking’ eyebrows.

Ok… so maybe I was bored at work…
Buzz Lightyear is one of the two main characters in Disney’s really cool, fully computer animated movie _Toy Story_. I wrote up Buzz purely for the fun of it, trying to see what would happen if I converted his ‘action figure’ powers into Champions terms. I quickly dispensed with the idea of making Buzz a 12″ tall toy and went with writing him up as a full-fledged ’superhero’.
Buzz Lightyear is a member of the Space Rangers (Universe Protection Unit) and as such it is his job to defend the universe from the threat of alien invaders, space pirates and so on. He comes complete with his own spaceship as well as a lot of neat built-in features like pop-out flight wings and true ‘karate-chop’ action.
Description:
Buzz looks to stand about 6′ or so, and when dressed in his armor, is very broad. Hair is most likely very short and of undetermined color, since he wore a closefitting cap in the movie. In may ways, he physically reminds me of Jay Leno.

Kinda. Not as good as some, but it’s decent, at least. At least it’s not “Jay Leno looks like Britney Spears” or something. (I’d like to see a set of pictures where they do. XD)
