Actually, sorry to put a damper on the merriment here, but the Nazi’s were actually a collection of both Nationalist and Socialist party members (Hence the meaning of Nazi – National Socialist), as Hitler wanted to give the impression, at least at first, that his party stretched across all political parties and sought to bridge the political divide. Of course once he assumed power, the high ideals that the party was born of, pretty quickly vanished, and they became more right wing than even parties today could conceive possible.
The nazis had gun control, socialized medicine, abortion, a government controlled economy and more nanny state social programs than you can shake a stick at. They accurately described themselves as socialists.

I always thought it just totally looked like a big ugly building designed by someone with a concrete-and-glass fetish, which means it looks uncannily like everything else that’s been built in the last ten years in Berlin.

Yeah I have a huge collection of photos of various large triangle-shaped buildings that aren’t too tall, with this exact wedge angle, viewed from that same vantage point. I just don’t feel like posting them.

Erm… The SPD stands for “democratic socialsm” in its principle-paper, the youth organisation are called the “young socialists” (JUSOS) – so I wouldn’t say they are opposed to socialism. And I defenitly wouldn’t underline it inaccuratly with “I know best”
They are liberal, they are moderate – but they also have a slight socialistic touch.

the important word is democratic, like the other parties, there are not very much differences between them (spd, cdu, fdp…); not really socialistic but protect interests and act for employees and the social securitiy system etc.
