  1. Rhinox says:

    First?
The creator of this TLA is sexually confused.

  2. Nephele says:

Metropolis is the film’s name, not the character name.

  3. DanDan says:

yes, the character’s name is Hel.

  4. Craig says:

And the only similarities I see is gold and robot. They don’t even remotely resemble each other!

  5. dijital101 says:

With halloween just recently passed, I wonder. Why has no girl dressed as slutty Hel before?

  6. Tess Luchsinger says:

Actually, C3-PO looks like the Metropolis robot, Hel. George Lucas has stated that his inspiration for 3PO came directly from this movie costume. Hel came first, therefore, FAIL.

  7. forge says:

    Movie: Metropolis
    Character: Maria
    Robot character: Hel
Robot prop from film: “Futura” as far as I can see in five minutes’ research

  8. deABREU says:

the robot’s name is Maria, and C3P0’s design is publicly know to be based off her

  9. chez says:

Fail! the one on the left is clearly feminine while C3PO is, while openly a femmy-type of gay also known as twink, technically supposed to be male.

  10. Lee says:

EPIC fail on the posters part. EVeryone knows Lucas Arts were sued over similarity issues…

Like saying a Honda looks like a Fiat for having 4 wheels…

  11. Wolfram says:

    But can you f*** it?

  12. Bill Clay says:

I agree that the female robot’s name is Futura. Hel and Maria are female characters that the robot was based on.

  13. Koki Kariya says:

I’m not quite sure that color is suitable to be a looks like. I mean I could just imagine an “Oh dear, we all look the same to you don’t we Master Luke”.

  14. Dinner4JC says:

Um… yes they do look alike. That was intentionally. Try watching some special features…

  15. wctceng101 says:

    mimi
Yes they need to date, and have a bunch of little C-3PO, and for the person asking if you can F;;;”"? get your head out of the gutter. Use your imagination they are robots they can do anything.

  16. Blu says:

I doubt if the character of Maria/Hel/Futura was fluent in six million forms of communication.

  17. Jules says:

They should have a threesome with Dot Matrix from Spaceballs.

  18. mearrin says:

C3PO WAS a cunning linguist…a master of many tongues. Yeah. Cheap. I know.

Seriously, though, I really do wish folks would maybe do a wikipedia search on their totally looks like posts. It’s not so hard and can save much pain and suffering…and prevent the inconveniencing of so very many electrons by limiting the “But x came before y”, “But x is plainly modeled after y”, and “But x just wishes he was y but is just a bad copy” comments that inevitably result.

  19. Eddie says:

The robot is called MARIA. Check Wikipedia if you don’t believe me.

  20. BULLDOG says:

You know what you people all look like? Morons!!

Many of you need to learn proper spelling, or at the very least some simple grammar.

To anyone recommending WIKIPEDIA as a reputable source of information or fact gathering tool, I’d like to say… now we know why some mammals eat their children. WIKIPEDIA can be edited by anyone (that would be you, your inbred parents, your neighbour, George Bush, etc.) at any time to suit their own needs or agenda, and we all know that people get “the facts” wrong often enough that to be using it as reputable source of material makes you dumber than a box of hair.

I’d like to leave you with one thought, but unfortunately I’m pretty sure you haven’t anywhere to put it!

    • pet.mousse says:

God. Who let the troll in?

You just spent several lines of text, and I daresay several minutes, vehemently insulting a group of individuals you do not know, who do not care,
on a forum ultimately set up as entertainment.

      I recommend a colon cleansing.
That’s one thing Wikipedia defines correctly- look it up :)

  21. mearrin says:

    Hey, Bulldog, bite me.

  22. Ope N. Wyde says:

That hurt. Big time. In here. *points to wenis*

  23. cats says:

I think metropolis is a pretty cool guy, eh is capitalist running-dog and doesn’t afraid of anything.

  24. mandy_2 more dead celebs to go_Reeves says:

Yeah Future or Futura whatever was the robot mold…Hel was what came out of it…the spin dancing flapper girl who seduced the men…Maria is is the inspiration for Hel…she was locked away or whatever while Hel broke loose and created havock. Like a Maria doppelganger

  25. Forge got it right. Metropolis was the name of the movie, not the character.

  26. Griffin says:

The look alike was intended. It was a directorial decision by Lucas.

It’s a pity we can’t ALL waste our time watching the special features DVD on the widescreen trilogy.

  27. woo~ says:

    Dude, thats his girlfriend.

  28. rebbekka says:

those robots or wateva (im not into starwars) they look like oscars

  29. Megg says:

I own the movie Metropolis, and have watched it many, MANY times-starting when I was about seven! Hel was the name of a woman who was the long-dead love of Rotwang (the sceintist/sorcerer character who created the robot.) Hel had instead married Jon Fredersen- the father of the main chatacter, Freder and had died giving birth to said main character. Rotwang created the robot in an attempt to bring Hel back to life-but it lacked a “soul.” Maria was a peaceful religious and civil rights leader of the opressed workers. Jon Fredersen chose her as Rotwang’s guinea pig to try to give the robot a soul-thinking that he could then control the workers through the new robot Maria doppleganger. However, the robot had ger own ideas, and began whipping all the men around her into a violent ( and sexual) frenzy, and inciting a catastrophic worker’s revolt. If anyone reading this hasn’t seen the movie-it is a fantastic artistic film and in many ways a startlingly accurate vision of the future considering it was released in 1926. It is especially neat if you can find the re-released version that came out in the 80’s that has the movie set to an 80’s rock sountrack. That is the version I own.

  30. demoniodigital says:

there is a release on dvd of this movie with the original music which was recently found in germany, and replayed by an orchestra for that edition. other thing that shoul be noted is that Fritz Lang (director) made massive scenes that were NOT done hollywood than (1920s), maybe a bit smaller scene than soviet sci-fi movie “Aelita” from 1919 or 1920 (don’t recall it now). Comparing that pseudo sci-fi star wars thing is sad compared to true, scientificaly accurate sci-fi. that movies are FULL of scietific fails. they only etretain ignoramuses such as ignorant northa americans srom the states that call themselves america, taking in account that america is the whole continent, not only that pseudo landofthehree country…educate yourselves and be aware that u r not alone and that a lot of the rest of the palnet ahtes u and ur ignorance and military interventions
