Some people were just put on this earth to make the rest of us laugh! I can imagine that Diller saw a picture of a chikcen like this one and said “I want to look like that when I grow up!” Imagine the courage it takes to dress that way. WIN
Courage? Maybe. Could also be boredom or just a need for attention.
Honestly, I know nothing about Phyllis Diller. I’m just tired of hearing people like her or David Bowie being worshipped for their sense of style.
She was popular in late 60’s through early 80’s as a comic. I don’t know anyone who worshiped or respected her “sense of style” but most found it quite amusing and I think a display of profound courage.(I don’t think I could wear that at Holloween). It was all about the laughs, and it was a success!
Phyllis has always been the queen of self-mockery. If she saw this TLL, she would laugh her head off (with her trademark guttural laugh!). I dig it!

In my 4th grade classroom (1986) we had a couple of animals, including this same breed of chicken. It’s name was Phyllis, after Phyllis Diller. Also, my dad used to switch the words to “Thriller” and sing “cause it’s a Phyllis Diller night…”

I am also often so inclined to appreciate a good bowl of chili.
The ‘I love Chili’ is probably part of the original signature. Phyllis Diller used to market a brand of canned chili made from her own recipe. In the 90s, in a limited area, if I remember correctly, but it’s long been discontinued. A lot of people seem to have liked it, though.
I didn’t lol until I read “Polish Frizzle Bantam White Chicken”. ^_^
