I am surprised that this one actually made it. If it was FMA or Naruto then yeah it would really help, but It took me a bit of time to find dubbed D Gray Man so this is weird. But I like it. WOO HOO ANIME!! Harry Potter is boring though.

According to a quick Wikipedia search, this D.Gray-man anime or whatever originated in 2004, which was certainly after Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (US book cover with Snitch illustration came out in 1998; see http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/0590353403/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=283155&s=books ).

So the Sneetch came first. Sneetch being (in Stephen King land) a ball harboring blades that flew at you, lacerated you with wicked sharp blades, then exploded with enough force to cause your body to be reduced to red jello.

On the cover of the first book (American non-adult cover), Harry is seen catching a snitch, so the shape is rather defined there. The image is rather old, so I would assume it came first, although I am unsure.

The manga D.Gray Man was released May 31, 2004.

Actually D. Grayman is a manga (and anime) that seems to be deliberately derivative (drawing from Full Metal Alchemist, Harry Potter, etc.), so the similar appearances are probably entirely intentional.
