That’s not being a geek. It’s pretty obvious to anyone with an IQ above 12 that the future of futurama is based on the future of the past. The show is even named after a ride in New York World’s Fair, in 1939.

I have a thought about this. Now, this may be straight out of left field, but I think there’s a distinct possibility that the resemblance here may in fact be intentional. Almost as if the creators of Futurama were using decades of science fiction as the basis for their futuristic world.
Honestly, I’m surprised nobody in this thread has even considered that possibility yet…
