And there are actually very few people in Dawsonville that have Southern accents, and an accent doesn’t make a person, they can’t help what kind of voice they have, people just write them off as idiots when they hear their accent.

It’s ironically hilarious that Dawson County looks like a Scottish Terrier, and that the Scottish Terrier is on a crapload of the Dawson County signs. I’ve lived in Dawsonville most of my life and I think the Terrier thing is fairly recent, if it isn’t I guess I just didn’t pay much attention to the signs when I was younger.

Another hilarious note on Dawsonville: We got an Adult Entertainment store before we got a Wal-Mart. How sad (but true and funny as hell) is that?

“People like you”? In saying “people like you” are you not in fact speaking on a “bias” as well? Your rant not only made yourself look silly by trying to show off your, I’m sure you thought, impressive grammar and vocabulary for a southerner, but you also became a hypocrite; good job, you win the game.
You had also stated that you “cover” your accent. Well, you must be ashamed to be a southerner in that case. If you don’t believe the stereotypical “people from the south are stupid and a redneck” then you should feel no need to hide it. In doing so you’re giving in to their opinions and letting the stereotype “win”.
Oh, and also, I’m from Dawsonville Georgia, born and raised. I know what the people around here are like, and yes, my dogs are smarter than 90% of them.

People like you are the reasons Georgians like myself cover our accents in public. Regardless of our level of education, natural intelligence, creativity, etc., we are aware that an incorrect cultural bias permeates American society and that said bias will cause us harm if we are though of as southerners.

Classism fail. Comments like that only further the stereotype that southerners are unintelligent. As a Georgia resident, I take serious offense.
