Have you never heard of picture editing? Changing the tone is one of the easiest thing to do to a photo.

This is getting to be a theme. Don’t publishers and record companies have the rights to more than a half a dozen pictures for their book covers and CD inserts?
They do. And this “theme” is getting seriously old. OMG these photos look the same!!
Well, they could not have bought the rights to the picture, just the rights to publish it with their book.. So the graphic artist is free to republish the picture.. S/he changed the grass, the lighting, and the position, along with the typography..
Enough to resell it to another client.

Exactly, This “stock photo totally looks like the same stock photo possibly slightly altered by the original artist” stuff needs to stop.
Well the thing is when an artist buys a stock photo they can either just buy the photo, or buy exclusive rights. Sometimes the exclusive rights become very expensive so they can’t afford it. If they don’t buy the exclusive rights, anyone else can buy and use the same photo/
And everybody on Earth knows how publishing works. There’s no way this was posted by somebody who has no idea that this sort of thing goes on.

It’s not exactly the same, but close enough. The one on the right has little flowery bits.

The images are the same, but the flowers were added or removed from one of them.
The woman is the same. Look at the crinkles on the skirt. They are identical. They just photoshopped some daisies into the picture.

This is why you should BEWARE OF USING STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY!!! You never know when or where it will crop up again.

Flipping the photo and Photoshopping the contrast and hue saturation; yeah that totally makes it original!
look at the dress, its slightly above the knee on one leg on both pics. theres just a slight color difference, which is probably because they changed the contrast level.

Hi, I’m Melissa Pritchard, and I didn’t choose the cover – the publisher chooses – I had no idea about any of this until there was an article in the NY Times – also, when I was in a London bookshop, I was shocked to see Eugenides’ book with the same cover as mine – authors, or most, don’t generally get to pick their covers….just thought I’d clear that up – Thanks!
