          No, I’m not replying because you “offended” me. I just wanted to point out that Theory of a Dead Man sounds a lot like Nickelback because Chad Kroger has wrote and produced most of their music. He has also gave the singer a lot of pointers, vocal wise, so I’m thinking that you should blame that one on Theory of a Dead man, not Nickelback. Touche on Daughtry though, I agree with you there.

          It’s called stock photography. It’s what you SHOULDN’T use on a major project like a famous band album cover, because anyone can purchase the very same photo and use it on whatever they like.

            I’m not buying the stock photo story. I looked it up- this was Nickelback’s sixth album. They’d had some significant sucess by that point and weren’t just taking whatever album cover was given to them. Bands tend to take their album art pretty seriously; it’s not an afterthought. The in joke theory, while unsubstantiated, sounds more plausible.

              Please ‘google U2 No Line on the horizon’ for plenty of info on how record companies use stock art for big names without thoroughly checking to see if it’s already been used. The record company usually hires some accountant type to generate product packaging. These usually aren’t the music aficionado’s who would recognize two similar images, or know any band art other than their own.

      Normally I’d agree with you, but I don’t think this is homage, this is simply “same stock photo”.

      Although I gotta admit the font choices are very similar looking.

      As a graphic designer, I’d say this could ALSO be a case of a designer trying to be funny at Nickelback’s expense. Lord knows whenever you submit a joke design THAT will be the one the client likes :p

      I don’t think most of these people understand the word “homage”. Really. Like those idiots that can’t quite get the grip on the fact that Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus are the same person and post that “look alike” over and over.

      I have to agree with that one… a LOT of music artists pay homage to the folks to who inspire them, or they truely appreciate. (I happen to know this because of the line of work I am in).

      You’ll find a TON of album covers that look identical to other album covers for that very reason – and artists don’t go after them because – THEY don’t look at it as Copyright Infringement – they look at it as an honor that someone felt it necessary to show some sort of external reference… it’s usually the FANS of BOTH artists that take so much notice to it – rather than those who do not, and it usually boosts album sales in the process…

      It’s called Entertainment Marketing – and this is one of the most common of it’s simplest forms.

      actually if you look at the details of the clouds you will see that it is not a homage at all. It is a straight copy. the clouds are exactly the same on both. the only difference is that nickleback darkened the windshield of the car a little so you couldn’t see in.

      they had no idea they were using an image from another album. no one would do that in such a close time frame.

          Yes, you can say it and not be stupid. You can be something between ironic and sardonic, or you can be logically correct, situation depending.

          You might note that on this site, the older objects are often (maybe even usually) on the left, i.e. “backwards”. Younger people, when they first encounter something that happens to hail from before their time, often naively say something like “ooh, that looks like [name of newer object with which they are more familiar].” Now, an oldster might respond “you mean [newer object] looks like [older object]” as a prelude to describing the history of said objects. Down the line, people find it amusing to intentionally duplicate the idiom of “reversing” the order.

          But in the strict logical sense, resemblance by itself is irrespective of chronological order; if A looks like B, then B looks like A regardless of which really came first. It is only when we introduce the notion of something intentionally designed in another’s image that chronology becomes a factor in which looks like what, i.e. if A was made to look like B, then it is probably illogical to say that B was made to look like A. Nevertheless, you can go right ahead and say B was made to look like A, and when some bright spark “corrects you” that actually, A was made to look like B since A is newer, you can respond “thanks for the tip, captain obvious.” (Sometimes the stupid make the mistake of assuming that everybody is just as stupid.)

          To say “your father looks like you” sounds backwards because it is generally understood that children are “made” in the image of their parents. However, if the father is actively trying to resemble his child, the intent of the comment is likely to be less on the mere physical resemblance than on the father’s actions.

    From what I can tell Motor City Magic is a show group specializing in Motown and R&B covers. Nickelback, as has been discussed, is just a really crappy band.

    OMFG get some fact people!! Tis is photos is of Mike Kroegers (from Nickelback) own muscle car that was taken on a photoshoot while filming the video for the song ‘Fly’ (which tanked onthe charts). The whole thing is an in-joke between Kroeger and the Motor City bassist.

      I just want to point out that being the most overplayed band on the radio does not equal talent. Yes, Nickelback can be considered a successful band in a marketing/business sense, but they still “fail” artistically. A radio station can play Nickelback all they want, I’m still going to turn it off before my ears start bleeding.

        Well, yes, I know that there are SOME good popular bands, but I’m saying that the mainstream music culture seems to be almost entirely made up by things like Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, Soulja Boy, and pretty much every awful rapper ever born. Talented, original bands/singers are very hard to find nowadays. Go to your average middle school and ask the students what bands they like, and TRUST ME on this one, 90 percent of them will say bands like those I mentioned before. I think that it is accurate to say that the best music comes from bands that aren’t advertised on VH1 or-even worse-Disney Channel. (I’m sorry if anyone is offended by this.)

    As musician and having written a song or two myself I try not to chuckle sometimes when I hear professional appreciators rip up a band for sounding like another band. I am willing to be the majority of you have never written a single note of music yourself that you weren’t transcribing. There are only 7 notes available (not including accidentals) If you bothered to pay attention to musical history one would note periods of music in which things sound remarkably similar. It has been that way for a very long time.

    Every musician has been influenced by someone and receive their inspiration from someone or something. Very little is truly original. I’m almost done pissing on the fun parade, I get what I deserve for checking out a site based on making fun of similarities given my pet peeves…
