Isn’t Appa one of the smaller ones? It’s the part of memory where Aang chooses Appa to be his lifetime partner. And Sky Bisons all look alike anyways so it doesn’t have to be Appa.
But yeah, amusing indeed.

M Night Shyamalan makes horrible movies. I was so upset when I found out he was directing it. I was even more upset when I found out Dev Patel is playing Zuko. this casting is SO WRONG.

I, honestly, was thinking Taylor Lautner. He was that Indian dude in Twilight. He definitely has the grouchy-face and intimidating body for it.
I’d prefer someone who didn’t make the movie automatically racist. Good guys [white] vs Bad guys [brown]. And, Fire Nation people are supposed to be pale, anyway!

I believe that Dev Patel is the least of our worries. If he has any acting chops at all he can act mad all the time and the special effects department will take care of the scar. What about Shaun Toub as Uncle Iroh? I love Iroh and I fear for this character more than Zuko.

Even though Shyamalan movies tend to suck, he actually *watched* the show before adapting it. Points for him there, at least.

Well, being truthful, they don’t bear a striking enough resemblance. It’s obvious that the creator of “Appa” copied it directly from the “water bear″. Almost everything, including the six legs, are near duplicates. The only differences are the addition of color, an arrow, and changing the tail. Anyone that accepts that this is a fluke has a issue with objective analysis. But there will be people who argue against it anyway
It was probably created by the group who made Mimas look like the death star.

Appa was based off of catbus from “My neighbor totoro!” An wayyyy creepier version of a water bear. lol
I knew it! Catbus Rocks!
Then I wonder if catbus was based on a Water Bear. I think that the creators of Avatar are geniuses — genii? ;] — who probably know about Water Bears, and said “hey, this would make a really cool cartoon character, and cartooning is another talent of mine besides biology!”

OMG. If animals had ’stats’, the “water bear” (technically a Tardigrade) would kick everythings ass! I am always suprised noone knows what the hell a Water Bear is. Look it up. It would give Chuck Norris a good fight….

I always wondered what the reason for the six legs were, and why Appa really doesn’t look like a bison at all. It all makes so much sense now o.o.
*memories of my old water bear report* I remember reading somewhere that water bears can freeze up in cold weather and remain that way until it warms up and they defrost so that they can get back to their lives. Maybe that’s why they chose to make Appa look like a water bear?
Now, we just need a microscopic AVATAR!
