OMG. I’ve totally heard of one of these guys. Hey everybody. Come see how cool I am. LOL.
Perhabs TLL should be renamed to: Similar looks done on purpose…
Amen to that.
isn’t he supposed to look like Rasputin in a furry hat? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a4/Rasputin_pt.jpg/200px-Rasputin_pt.jpg
Thank you for sharing my immediate reaction. I forgot to be amused at this TLL because I was too busy yelling “Y’THINK?!”
Sterotypical Russian #1 TTL stereotypical Russian #2!!
Also, in Soviet Russia…. yeah I got nothin’
can an actual Russian really be a stereotype? I think Ivan set the Stereotype.
Well a stereotype is when the actions/looks/speech of at least one member of a group is projected onto all memebers of the group. So yes, an actual Russian can be a stereotype. Just like an actual white guy can be a stereotype. An actual “Bro” (you know what I’m talking abou–Hey, let’s play MADDEN!) can be a stereotype. An actual gay person can be a stereotype, etc., etc.
How about this one? In Soviet Russia, the hat wears YOU!
But they’re not Russian, they’re Scandinavian. Or Bulgarian, in Krum’s case.
Umm… how does Bulgaria equal Scandinavia?
“Scandinavia[1] is a historical and geographical region in northern Europe that includes, and is named after, the Scandinavian Peninsula. It consists of the kingdoms of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.[2] While some authorities argue for the inclusion of Finland and Iceland,[3][4] in Scandinavia the term is used unambiguously to refer only to Denmark, Norway and Sweden, which share a mutually intelligible language (a dialect continuum), ethnic composition and have close cultural and historic bonds, to a degree that Scandinavians may be considered one people (see scandinavism).
Regardless of how the term Scandinavia is used outside the region, the terms Nordic countries and Nordic region are used officially and unambiguously to identify the nations of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland as well as the Danish territory of the Faroe Islands and the Finnish territory of Åland as politically and culturally similar entities.[5][6][7][8]“
I think it would be news to the “Tsar of All Russia” if you told him he wasn’t Russian.
I can only see the “Scandinavian” part if you are talking about the “русь”, or “Rus”, who were Varangian in origin but whose descendants now include Russians, Belorussians, and Ukrainians.
In before “It should be the other way around”
I clicked on this one SPECIFICALLY to say that. You’ve foiled me
The problem is, this site isn’t called “Totally Copied Off Of.” If one of your friends said “You totally look like that other guy,” would you correct him and say “No, I was born first, so he looks like me.”?
Excellent example of why order doesn’t matter. Now if only people could stop complaining about it, but I find that unlikely.
I pray if I ever sue anyone for copyright infringement I don’t look and see you in the jury box.
I’m sure it’s supposed to be. I’m always disappointed at the look-alikes that are so clearly intentional. Like, yeah, the “stereotypical Russian” comment is exactly true.
But it’s pretty fricken cold in Russia. Wearing thick furs are so you don’t die of cold, and men’s beards keep their chins warm. Though the diabolical-ness of many Russian characters made up by the rest of the world IS rather stereotypical…
…but you have to be fendishly clever to live in a frozen waste land! That is as commong sense as the beard and the furry hats.
My God, I feel so depressed thinking of those poor Russian women with cold chins.
I love my ushanka. It is a very nice thing to wear on a cold day. Of course, going into the grocery store in the US wearing a big fuzzy Russian hat can cause some stares. Agreed about women with cold chins, though they do have mufflers and scarves and stuff. I feel sorrier for them because of the big fuzzy beard they have to interact with, than the one they lack.
I’ve got a ushanka too, and I share your opinion of it. When I wore it to work I’d either get stares or people who knew me would tease the hell out of me. Better that, though, than frostbite…
By the way, mine is very un-P.C., too; the brand name is “Mad Bomber” and it’s made of rabbit fur… if certain folks these days saw the label, I’d probably have to deal with an attempted lynching.
It’s cold in winter. And it’s hot in summer.
Like Foxhaund said, its only cold in winter. ARE YOU ABUSING RUSSIA, ASSHOLE?
Ivan was a big HP fan. He totally based his look on that guy.
if there was a thumbs up-thingey, i would give you one
KARKAROFF FTW LOL!
yeah…i’m thinking that that was intentional.
Pretty much what why? said.
Hahaha! You guys… ok, the only reason Ivan is placed to the left, when he clearly should be on the right… is that I did not really think of that in the moment I did the caption. Thats it. Nothing else.
I just thought it looked better like this, not thinking that it should be the other way around.
Clearly, everyone noticed it but me… so sorry for any confusion.
Now, comment away!
Well, duh…
That’s like saying ‘Merlin’ looks like ‘Dumbldore’.
So they both look like “archetypal scary Russian nobleman”? Huh. -_-
I totally noticed that the first time I saw Goblet of Fire!
i bet they made it like that!!
This pic got me laid, Thanks!
Bulgaria is the Poor Man’s Russia…XD
