Everyone should read The Sandman collection. It is amazing! Neil Gaiman’s best work, for sure.
Black haired, pale, white skinned inspired-by-rockstar character drawn by various artists looks like another rockstar? No wai. The Sandman came before Edward Scissorhands BTW.
Still, it’s an amazing series. The Sandman’s awesome.
And so is Robert Smith.

Except that Neil Gaiman didn’t draw that. Not sure who’s art that is. P. Craig Russell, maybe?
So? Gaiman created the character and described him to the artist, who then drew him according to Gaiman’s vision.
I’m pretty sure the artist is Jill Thompson, the illustrator for Sandman: Brief Lives. Also, in the Sandman Companion by Hy Bender, Neil specifically states that Dream’s appearance was based on Robert Smith.

I know it’s a South Park reference. I make sure to listen to The Cure every time I hear a Barbara Streisand track just to kill her in my head. I just feel that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are wrong in saying Disintegration is the best album because imho Pornography is at least 10 times better. I love listening to it in the summer cause it’s so cold and depressing that it acts as aural air conditioning for me.

And for the record, I like Head on the Door. And Sandman pwns EVERYTHING on this page.

Of course Delirium looks like Tori Amos, Neil did that on purpose, they are good friends and reference one another often. Although I think you knew that.

Sandman is one of the best things to ever happen to the comics world.
Doesn’t Siouxsie Sioux kind of look like the closest to a human being resembling Death? I thought that when I read they were making a film out of the high cost of living… maybe that’s just me
Maybe Gaiman was inspired by them? The various musicians listed in above as well. It would make sense… I can see the artist asking him “so what do these characters look like?” and getting a response along the line of “I dunno, goth musicians, I s’pose…” lol

The original artist’s depiction of Morpheus was based on Peter Murphy in the beginning of The Hunger, later artists used Robert Smith as a model but kept the Bauhaus cheekbones.
the sandman is so much rediculous win. i dont even like comic books and even i read teh entire series and loved everysecond of it. it was like watching an awesome movie or reading an amazing book.
i really hope they dont make it into media of any sort,].
When this comic book came out the first time, Alot of people were making this comparison.
