By the way, how DARE this point out that he’s toothless?! He probably gets judged based on that every day of his life. It’s really quite sad how little progress has been made against tooth prejudice. Even though our first President, George Washington, was toothless, there are still disgusting signs of toothism present today. I hope that some day toothless-americans will get the respect that they deserve.

But why should I not point out the racism, intended or not, that this comparison evokes. Contrary to your statement, that is precisely how individuals “change the world”.

And we all have some impact on other people’s lives, some more than others depending on our circumstances. And often whether we like it or not. The idea that the “individual” and the “collective” are separate spheres antithetical to each other is an illusion, i.e. a Fantasy. This is why we each have a responsibility to be aware of the effects our lives have on each other. The greater the power over others, the greater one’s responsibility is.

Edmund’s points might be more accurate in a Fantasy World that has no Racism in it. But it ain’t this world. Though some of his points regarding collectivism and individualism do have some merit.
