Great. I just had a “That’s racist!” moment.

    • Shin says:

Everyone’s a little bit “racist”. When will people stop crying “racist!” when there’s a joke involving blacks or jews (or any other “minority”)? You know, they make fun of white people / non-jews etc., too – and that’s perfectly fine. *Actual* racism is hatred, and not funny at all.

      • kafleen says:

You’re right that everyone’s a little bit racist, though most will deny it to their death. It’s adaptive and necessary to a certain extent to be observationally discriminatory (did I say that right? )

However, all racism is not hatred, e.g., saying that blacks are good singers, or Latinos are good lovers, will probably not earn you a beatdown, but rather a smug smile. Those comments are racist, nonetheless.

        *runs and doesn’t look back*

        • hmm says:

          “all racism is not hatred”

That statement is equivalent to saying “no racism is hatred”, which is clearly false. I think you meant “not all racism is hatred”.

        • Jacked says:

And that is part of the problem. No one seems to understand what racism is, anymore.

Saying blacks are good singers is *not* racism. Not even close.

Racism is the belief of inherent inferiority based on the color of one’s skin.

You could even say you hate black people without being a racist. A bigot, sure, but not necessarily a racist.

    • smuffle says:

How is that racist? Those two men really just look alike. It didn’t even occur to me to think that was racist. I thought “are they sure that isn’t two pictures of the same guy, but one when he’s 10 years younger?”

      • Salmon says:

Cuz all black people look alike

I didnt say that, and i dont live by it… >_> I just know it

        • graspee says:

But it’s true that everyone, no matter their race has trouble distinguishing between the faces of people from other races. “They all look the same to me” is true for everyone. It’s scientific fact, you can’t deny it.

          • smuffle says:

Yes, I can. I have no trouble telling apart the faces of my black students, even at first glance. Even within the first day of meeting them I could recognize them in the halls, even among dozens of other black students. I would like to see where you get your “scientific facts”. (Oh right; you probably don’t have any, ’cause you’re probably trolling.)

Point being: some people just look alike, some don’t! Comes from the fact that most of us have eyes, a nose, a mouth, and ears. ;)

            • Nostawyn says:

Yes, but are you around a lot of black students? I’m with you on the “scientific” thing being bs, but I do think it’s harder for people of race A to tell people of race B apart if they’re never around people of race B.

Example: I’m white, and I come from a predominately white area. Before going to college, I had a hard time distinguishing one black person from another if they were the same gender, roughly the same size, and had the same hair style (provided I didn’t know them well, of course). Now that I’ve been around people of different races a lot, I have no trouble with it.

So I’ll agree that graspee is full of it, but I’d like to add in a clause about how often a person is exposed to other races.

              • Goniatites says:

It’s more about how the brain works out the face-recognition.
If someone is not connected to you, your brain doesn’t process their faces completely. It just recognizes the most prominent facts.
that’s why the others all look the same.

              • smuffle says:

I come from a pretty suburban-white area but I grew up next door to a black family and there have always been black people around or on TV, so I guess I’m pretty used to them. I live in an area that is very multicultural (Montreal), so people don’t really say stuff like “black people all look alike”.

Although sometimes they do say that about Asians. Which I also disagree with because there are all kinds of Asian faces. And hell, I very often see white people who look exactly like some other person I know and have a hard time figuring out if I know the person or not.

                • Titansmum says:

I am of northern European decent and had a ton of Asian friends at work and in college, to the point that I could begin to discern a persons ancestry by looking at them: Chinese/Japanese/Cambodian etc… So imagine my surprise when I was sitting with a friend from India and when I tried to describe someone, she sheepishly told me we all looked alike to her. :-) I think 3 things are true 1) it is always easier to distinguish difference in faces you are around a lot, usually your same heritage, 2) some people are simply more tuned into these things than others and 3) This does not have to be a racial thing, it can be gender too. If there are only a few women in the office, watch how much more often they are called by the wrong name for example. A friend I was frequently confused with had completely blond (I am a very dark brunette) and 3 inches taller than me, but I got called by her name consistently.

  2. Joti says:

Wow, looks like Louis from L4D.
    Grabbing peelz.

  3. kthnxbye says:

Similar facial expressions and suits and hair (or lack of). Otherwise they don’t look alike, but I think we’ve seen examples of white celebs that don’t look like each other in any way but dress, hair, and expression as well.

The dicey part comes from the “they all look alike” stereotyping that happens. But white people all look alike to me as well. For instance, I can’t tell Jon Voight and Christopher Walken apart even when I’m looking at picture of them side by side, except that Voight is fatter and not as cool.

  4. no one says:

Just because they’re black? OMG that is soo Racist.

  5. futnat says:

    racists!

  6. WarDragon says:

it’s just because it’s often harder to tell people of a different skin colour than yours apart. or the voters just looked for one second and went: “OMG thumbs up!!1!!11!!!one!”

probably the latter since I see too many differences.

  7. Nick R. Bocker says:

    who? and who?

  8. TheObject says:

    Not even close.

  9. msz says:

which one is the guy from lost?!

  10. ellywig says:

Only ’cause they’re duck faced, wearing similar suits and ties, and at the same angle. The photography is similar, the people are not.

  11. Jim says:

I suppose they all look the same to you, TLL.

  12. Coritsu says:

    Drama, baby!
    Das ist der Wahrheit!

  13. Melvazord says:

I’m not a racist….unless you count the French, those unwashed, horse eating, cowardly cheese-touchers.

In that case then yes, I’m definitely racist.

  14. deadinfrance says:

    Those are two creepy picture-yuck

  15. deadinfrance says:

I meant pictures and no I am not racist-just creeped out…

  16. charlie says:

so – if a TLL has two white people, for example, who look similar due to hair cut, build and camera shot, but look nothing alike facially – do you call this out for racism?

Of course not! Why, white people are *never* the subject of racism!

    • telefil says:

Heh. I have a friend who is, shall I say “a person of colour”. She insists that there’s no such thing as racism against whites because the oppressor (i.e. white folk) can’t be oppressed.

Tell that to my white Irish ancestors, who were slaves to Vikings and eventually Britons and even Southern plantation owners!

      • charlie says:

Ooh yes. My friends refer to me constantly as being ‘white’ without any qualm of feeling racist, where they would be deeply anguished if I were to even jokingly refer to them as ‘asian’ (“We’re not just Asian! We’re Chinese/Filipino/Korean etc.)

Have you heard of the song ‘Everyone’s a little bit Racist’ by Avenue Q? Gooood song. :)

    • Baby Maker says:

Look again, Chuck. On white/white TTLs I’ve made exactly those comments. Not that anyone noticed. Obviously.

  17. Karl says:

    It’s Billy Blanks!

  18. Elle says:

So if you think this is racist – should we call the TLL with Adam Lambert and Liza Minelli homophobic? Should we call the TLL with Glenn Close and George Washington sexist? SHOULD WE CALL THE TLL MARILYN MANSON AND THIS CAT UM… SPECIESIST?!?

LEARN TO GET A FRIGGING SENSE OF HUMOR PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY

  19. Queen Of The World says:

That is so racist. On behalf of all bald black men worldwide, I demand a public apology.

  20. Petite emmerdeuse says:

    These men deserve a TLL.
But this blog is quite frightening: you expect to have humorous, open and decomplexed people visiting it, and actually a lot of comments reveal politically correctness rised to an astounding level of stupidity. Sorry, but equality in all thing means also equality in being made fun of, of being able of laughing about yourself, and getting that stick out of your a**. You are not mocking an entire race when you make a TLL, or else a lot of TLL would be racist toward white people. Are they whining about it?

  21. Actually says:

Most “racist” comments are just mocking the pathetic country we now live in where any criticism of a negro is called racist (unless he’s not a party member)…because of course all the white people would willfully follow a communist who was white, we all know that so what else could anyone possibly dislike about…Him?
    So don’t jump to conclusions.

(and this non-lol since they all look the same)

    • Gandalfs Beard says:

Did you just use the completely outdated term “Negro”?

      • Baby Maker says:

I’ve spoken with Europeans who quite offhandedly use it. And they seem confused at my startled expression. Maybe only people here in the hyper-sensative states of america get offended at every tiny little stupid FREAKING SYLLABLE THAT ANYONE EVER SAYS EVER!

    • Actually, Actually says:

Nice attempted at a veiled attack on the current president. BUT, I’ll say that you’ve very clearly revealed your personal racist tendancies by using the outdated word “negro”. If you have respect for a people you’ll call them what they want to be called. Most African-Americans prefer that term these days to “negros”, “coloreds”, or any of the other “nice” terms that were applied to them in the American South during our version of Apartheid. Kind of like you and I don’t like being called “honkey” and “cracker”. BTW, I’m from Georgia so you can stuff any thoughts about me being an “outlander” if you’re southern.

AND, I think you’re wrong. Most of the “racist” claims here are making a mockery of the one dude long ago that actually posted a serious claim of racism because somebody had the temerity to say that two black dudes that looked alike actually did look alike.

Your last comment makes me think either your whole post was a joke (not likely) or that you’re the sort of throwback cracker we got rid of with Strom Thurmond. Which is it? Care to answer?
      M

      • telefil says:

        Wow.

I know punk teenagers who call themselves the n-word, but I sure as heck wouldn’t use it even in jest – not because I’m politically correct but because it’s impolite. If someone’s calling you ‘honky’ and ‘cracker’ I’d suggest it’s probably because you’ve already said or done something offensive. Which doesn’t seem all that much of a surprise given your little rant here.

If the black people in the U.S. want to call themselves African-American, what’s it to you if they’ve ever set foot on African soil? If you don’t like it, go back to where your ancestors came from. Not too many generations ago I’ll bet it was somewhere a little too warm for your liking.

The white people in South Africa were colonists who oppressed the native peoples there; the hideous activity there isn’t because the grand white folk have left with their ideals, but because the native society and its culture have been destroyed, leaving people without direction and without hope.

The whole “if Obama was white” argument is moot – he wouldn’t have been him if he’d been white, he’d have been someone else. He still may have run for and won the Presidency, but that’s a whole different timeline. The fact is one of his parents IS white, which makes him mixed-race. He is both white and black, genetically, and unfortunately for you he’s also an intelligent and charming man.

At least he was actually voted in.

        • DUH says:

          A) Black people DON’T call themselves “african american” in normal conversation just like white people don’t.
B)black people dislike white people just as much as white people dislike them
          C) My grandparents came from Ireland and Italy and I have never once in my entire life referred to myself as Irish-American or Italian-American, I was born here, I’M AN AMERICAN
D)the people in South Africa are just like the black people here and pretty much everywhere else. How about you go look up the percentage of people in our prisons who are “african american”?
AMERICA was a colony and we were “oppressed” too you idiot. I don’t remember anything about the country turning into a giant crime spree after the revolution. Irish people when my grandfather came here were treated very much like black people so why aren’t 2/3 of the people in prison Irish?
          E) The point OBVIOUSLY was that a white person with Obama’s exact same mentality and communist agenda wouldn’t get elected to anything and the ONLY reason he was picked over Hilary was the whole “if anyone criticizes him about ANYTHING, we can call them racists” DUH. (and pathetic liberal pukes who bend over backwards to avoid black people will vote for him to “prove” they aren’t “racist”)

F)If he’s “mixed race” why does HE refer to himself as “black”?
Since we don’t even know where he was born, we certainly don’t “know” who his slut of a mother slept with.

G)Calling him “intelligent” is basically liberal speak for, “he’s black and can actually speak English, that’s good enough for us”
That doesn’t qualify him as intelligent in the real world and if you’d bother to look at what the clown is doing, or listen to him TALK when he’s not reading, you’d figure out that he’s not very “intelligent” at all. But you’re right, for a black person, he’s smarter than most…that ain’t saying much. Ted Bundy was a very “charming guy” too, that’s how he managed to KILL so many innocent young girls.

Guess what genius, Bush was voted in too, twice but thanks for removing all doubt that you’re a retard. Clinton was voted in and didn’t even get 50% of the vote. JFK stole the election from Nixon, do you whine about that?

      • Libby says:

        Dude.
        P.S. Stands for “Post-Script”
The correct follow along for an addition after the Post Script is Post-Post-Script, or PPS, and the PPPS, etc.’
        *RME*

      • graspee says:

Actually, actually: you’re such a hypocrite! You tell the guy that he should call them “African-Americans” then you go on to call him a cracker, a word which you admit you wouldn’t like to be called yourself. The fact that he said he didn’t mind it doesn’t make it any less hypocritical of you.
If the term “cracker” is offensive then it will cause offence to someone else reading anyway.

Personally I think everyone these days is too over-sensitive. We should have one name for everyone, like “c*nt” or “f*ckhead” or something. Would make it easier.

  22. Sumar says:

Black people all look the same

  23. patricia says:

Outside of the bald heads they look nothing alike.

  24. S says:

They really don’t look alike at all except for being black bald men in suits. The faces (and even suits for that matter) are nothing alike. Not saying ‘it’s racist’ but I am saying its a piss poor ‘Totally Looks Like’.

  25. Modelverhunzer says:

    a) Not. Even. Close.
    b) Not racist – just ignorantev
    c) Does anybody outside germany even know who bruce darnell is?

  26. lols says:

Jiggaboo looks like other jiggaboo. How does this qualify? They all look the same!

  27. Danbala says:

They’re sure doing the same Zoolander face. ;p

  28. joni says:

well, the first time i saw this guy in fringe, i immediately thought of bruce darnell. it’s NOT just the photographs.

  29. hiarynipples says:

close resemblance to alicia keyes but no hair

  30. poopypants says:

It’s because that’s his double from the other side..

  31. np says:

They look a little alike. Not anywhere close enough to be on TLL, though.

  32. Jen says:

I’m white and they look nothing alike. At all. 2 bald black guys in a suit. Their facial structure, cheek bones, nose, eyes, ears, etc look nothing alike. Does not totally look like. I’m not crying racist or anything, like I said, I’m white and could care less, but this totally looks like is made of fail. So sorry. Plz do not try again

  33. Kit Kat says:

OMG! FRINGE!!!!!! I LOVE that show!

  34. Nostawyn says:

Um. . . no. They don’t. But then this site is so rarely funny anymore.

  35. Trickster says:

They both seem to be black. That’s all the similarity I found here. ^^

  36. StupidMan says:

Ah, all this discussion of “Is this racist?” etc. Maybe I’m odd, but I noticed the shape of their heads first and thought “They’re trying to say that egg-head and dome-head look the same? As if…”

  37. Marekatt says:

They all look the same to me.

  38. chibi says:

Look, I’m black as hell and they both look the same to me! Handsome, but the same!

  39. rammkatze says:

People seem surprised at “racism”. I’m surprised anyone outside of Germany knows who Bruce is. O_O

  40. Nerfy says:

Did anyone cry racism at the David Letterman=”white” gorilla caption?

  41. A Black Woman says:

I don’t know either of these men, so I looked up other photos… yeah, they sorta look alike. It’s not a TLL, though. Bruce normally looks like a fruitcake.

    Two things wrong here:

    1) I think you have some non-blacks trying to come off as the “Non-black person who will fight for black rights, and I want everyone to know it.” There’s no need to say “I’m white, and I know black people, so I’m qualified to say they don’t look alike and you’re a racist prick for suggesting so.” Either they look alike or they don’t, then you continue to spew out random puns that always go on on these comments.

    2) I doubt half of you know what racism is. It is true: white people are rarely the subject of racism. This is because of white privilege. You never have to walk in a store and worry about employees staring at you a little too hard. Your neighbors will almost always be nice to you. (If they aren’t, it won’t be because of your race). There are plenty benefits to white privilege. I say, enjoy it.

Last, I read this “Tell that to my white Irish ancestors, who were slaves to Vikings and eventually Britons and even Southern plantation owners!” You’re right. Your people were oppressed. BY OTHER WHITES. Or, if it makes you feel better, Europeans against Europeans. Lastly, your ancestors were not slaves to Southern whites; they were indentured servants. Good day, everyone!

  42. spooks says:

They look the same, they act the same, they smell the same, they do nothing positive for society the same, they will soon commit heinous crimes and get away with it.

  43. daghettoblaster says:

how is this racist its justa black dude tht looks like another black dude

  44. jacob says:

was one of them in lost?

  45. Spens says:

Also looks like Louis from left 4 Dead

  46. chucho e. quintero says:

…and BOTH of them look exactly like RuPaul out of drag ;)

  47. Charlie Bobo says:

They really do all look the same….

  48. super carrie says:

lance is sooooooo much hotter than bruce.

  49. Bob says:

Both look like louis from L4D. Pills here!

  50. Talena > says:

    OMG!!!!!!!!!! They totally look the same thay is so funny.:}}}}}
