Some people just don’t understand sarcasm. There are those with damage to the ventromedial area, but I think they lack empathy, too, which is not the case, here. As for why some otherwise intelligent, empathetic individuals don’t understand it is a mystery to me. My mother, for example, is the most wonderful person you’d want to meet, intelligent, creative, an awesome human being, the most normal person in the world, too, but she just doesn’t get sarcasm. Some people’s brains just don’t work that way, I guess.
